Labor Day Weekend

Because of the holiday weekend, traffic coming home for my husband would have been crazy on Friday night. My mom suggested that I head down to San Marcos and meet him for dinner there. Genius idea. We went to Cocina Del Charro in Restaurant Row. Stephen rarely drinks with me, especially if he's driving. We decided we'd enjoy drinks together but we'd walk around or get coffee before we headed home. I ordered a skinny margarita and I can't remember the name of the drink he ordered but it was very tasty. I really liked their food but Stephen said it's because I like bland food.

We walked over to Old Cal Coffee after and sat on the patio and sipped coffee. The weather was perfect. I actually had to put a sweater on.

We actually sat there talking about the idea of one day moving down to the San Marcos area because of his job. Commuting is hard, ya'll. Luckily I don't have to do it. But I don't want him doing it either, especially six days a week most weeks.

These dogs kill me. Look at Jax's face! There are moments when they drive me absolutely crazy but I love them so much at the same time.

I'm pretty sure Vader is struggling with the fact that we used to let him on our bed on Saturday and Sunday mornings. But now that we have Jax too, we haven't been letting that happen. Maybe in the future I'll allow it but right now Jax has an injured leg and I don't want him jumping up and down too much. Vader is learning that we need to be fair and if Jax can't get on the bed, neither can he.

We had my parents over for dinner on Saturday night. Stephen grilled burgers and the doggies got plenty of attention! They love their grandpa, especially Vader!

My trainer wants me logging 40 miles this month. I haven't been good at tracking my miles the last two month, except in my planner, so starting this month I'll be sure to post them more often. I ran two miles on Sunday. It was actually my fasted run this training round. My second mile was 14:15. I actually couldn't believe that my second mile was faster than my first. Usually it's the other way around.

Monday morning I woke up and got my run out of the way early. I knew I was going to be lazy yesterday so I wanted to get it done. My first mile was the fasted this time. 13:58.

I was incredibly lazy the rest of the day yesterday. I knew I would be. I ran to grab some groceries, picked up coffee for Stephen and I and then I came home and watched Netflix all day while coloring. Stephen had smoked a pork shoulder all day Sunday so we enjoyed that for lunch and dinner.

One of my finished products from this weekend. I love Lisa Frank!

Appetizers and Alcohol

Saturday morning I met up with my friend for coffee. We spent a few hours catching up and walking around Old Town. We even ran into my parents while we were there.

Saturday afternoon was spent prepping for our family dinner. We meet up with our parents once a month and we rotate houses {in case I haven't mentioned that before}. This month it was our turn to host. The theme was appetizers and alcohol. We had SO much food! More than ever before, I'm sure. I made antipasto skewers. I did not eat these because I am not a fan of olives. But I did snack on some of the ingredients while making them.

My mother-in-law made taco cups with all the fixings.

I also made turkey meatballs with grape jelly and barbecue sauce. Did I say I made them? I meant the crock pot made them.

My mother-in-law also made a salad.

She makes the poppy seed dressing from scratch and it's delicious!

My brother-in-law's girlfriend made stuffed mushrooms. I'm pretty sure my husband requested these.

My dad made mini taquitos.

My husband made pulled pork sliders on Hawaiian rolls. I also made {not pictured} bacon and cheese covered tater tots. I was planning on making skewers out of them but I ran out of time.

He also made watermelon jello shots. These were non-alcoholic for our niece.

And these were the ones with vodka. They became stronger as the night went on.

This was the first time our families met Jaxon. I think he made a good first impression. Vader was the wild child, like always.

We all sipped on drinks through out the night and my husband, my brother-in-law and I ended the get together with shots of goldschlager.

We all went to sleep that night with full bellies and happy hearts.

Wine Tasting

My soul sister and I have been talking about going wine tasting for a few weeks now. Living in Southern California's wine country means we have access to about thirty-five {maybe even more} wineries just down the road. This was my third time going wine tasting but I hadn't been in at least three years so it was nice to go again. On Friday afternoon we were able to do tastings at two wineries.

We started at Maurice Car'rie Winery. We sat on the front porch and relaxed while sipping wine and snacking on sourdough and brie.

They are known for their sourdough and brie and let me tell you, it's amazing! I've had it once before but we bought it and took it home. I've never had it fresh from the oven. Brie just might be my favorite cheese and sourdough is definitely my favorite bread. Together it's perfection. We were able to sample five wines while we were there. My favorite was the sparkling raspberry.

Everywhere we go, we get asked if we are sisters. This used to happen in junior high and high school too. I just think it's so funny. The women behind the bar at Maurice Car'rie was staring at us and she finally asked, "Are you two related?"

The grapes are in season right now so we were warned not to pick any of them.

We took so many photos! Way more than I'm even posting. Our second stop was Wiens. We sampled six wines there and I was able to see a friend of mine who works there. {When she saw Suzanne and I together she said, "You two are identical!" We just laughed.} I ended up buying and taking home a bottle of their Gewürtztraminer for Stephen.

This is the cellar room at Wiens for their wine club members. Suzanne and I are thinking of joining a wine club together. We just need to decide who has our favorite wines. Two wineries down, thirty-three to go!
