I am really enjoying this process of re-introducing my body to whole foods. I've gone many years feeding my body 'diet' foods and convenience foods that promised I'd lose five pounds in five days. When I had an option, I always chose the sugar-free one. I filled my body with artificial sweeteners and chemicals. I believed that in order to lose weight I needed to cut out all fat, when in fact the fat-free version of a food is the worst kind.
I grew up with a brother who always drank regular Coke and always ate full fat ice cream and I always wondered why and how he could be so much thinner than me. I was drinking Diet Coke and eating salads with fat free dressing. After all the reading and research I've done over the last couple of years I am convinced that I have ruined my metabolism and screwed with my body's natural state. I am looking forward to getting it back to where God intended it to be.
Day 6 was pretty great! No headaches. I didn’t crave anything. I wasn’t tired at all. I feel like I may be over the worst of it. I had the usual breakfast of eggs, bacon and turkey sausage. I also made some quick guacamole to put on top. My version of quick guac is mashing an avocado and adding garlic powder and salt. It was quite scrumptious.
I avoided donuts at work and I ate an apple on my break. That felt pretty darn good. For lunch I had turkey hot dogs, bacon, carrots and a banana with almond butter. I had a couple freeze dried bananas in the afternoon. And for dinner I was craving a steak. I went over to Bristol Farms and asked the butcher to pick me out a steak that would be less than $10. I didn’t want to spend a fortune on my dinner. It turned out delicious! I ate it with (you guessed it!) sweet potatoes. I’m thinking I may splurge once a week on a good steak. That way I won’t get too bored with chicken, turkey and pork.
I also made some more coffee creamer tonight. Only three ingredients and oh so delicious!
