My Favorite Things


Hey ya'll! It's been a little while since I've posted a blog. My days have been pretty full and I just haven't had the time to sit down and write. I have tons of ideas for posts though so hopefully in the next week or two I can update more often.

Today I’m going to share some of my favorite things with all of you. When I find something I love, I really LOVE it. (I’m a love/hate kind of person. One of the downsides of being so passionate.)

In case you didn't know, I am all about the volume when it comes to hair. I like to be near Jesus, if you know what I’m sayin’. I apply Big Sexy Hair Root Pump Plus to my roots before I blow dry my hair.




And then after I’m done styling my hair, I spray it with Big Sexy Hair Spray and Stay. This stuff is not lying when it promises to stay. It holds everything in place for hours and hours. It also helps create volume.



I ordered Rock Your Hair Bombshell Big Hair Powder off of Amazon recently. I was actually drawn to it because of the hot pink bottle. But I’m so glad I discovered it. I didn’t really like wearing my hair straight before because I always felt like it was too flat. Since I’ve began using this product I’ve been wearing my hair straight more often because it adds body.


Suave Dry Shampoo has literally changed my life. I’ve been using it for a little over a year now. I used to wash my hair every single day. I started hearing that that was bad for your hair so I gave dry shampoo a try. I went through a couple more expensive ones before I tried this one and I wish I would have tried this one first. It’s cheap and it smells like grape fruit and I can go three days without washing my hair now.



I’m sporting third day hair in the photo below thanks to Suave Dry Shampoo. AND I had worked out and sweated that morning. I usually spray it on my roots, then blow dry it for a few minutes and then style. My hair feels so much healthier since I’ve stopped washing it every day. And I've noticed that my hair does not get as oily as it used to. Sometimes I spray it on my roots on a day that I have washed it just to add volume.
 


I got the look below by using all the products I just mentioned. As well as a curling wand.


This is my all time favorite mascara! Just like the dry shampoo, it changed my life. I’ve even got my mom using it.


I have to say, trying to take a photo of your eye lashes is AWWW-KWARD.


My favorite snack lately has been a brown rice cake with garlic hummus on top. I never realized all the things that you can add on top of a rice cake. This was a total accident and now I eat one almost every day.


Can you tell what my favorite water flavoring is? I wanted to make sure I never ran out. No, but seriously. Watermelon Kool-Aid sugar free sweetener with NO aspartame. AMAZING! Target has had them on sale the last two times I’ve been in there so I stocked up.
 

And something that I talk about a lot! Spark! I’ve tried all the flavors now and Watermelon is still my favorite. Green Apple and Strawberry Mango are tied for second. I enjoy them all but Watermelon is just so delicious. When I was on the Whole 30 it was one of the things I craved! I like to drink Spark before my workout and I reach for it if I need an afternoon pick me up.

Advocare Herbal Cleanse Results

I thoroughly enjoyed the Advocare Herbal Cleanse. Wanna know why? Because I love the Peaches and Cream Fiber drink! I'm not lying. I know a lot of people can't stand the taste or the texture but I absolutely love it. It's a shame you only get to drink it six of the ten days. I may start ordering a box a month so that I can drink it every day from here on out. That's how much I like it!




I went to the gym seven out of the ten days. I'm sure that has a lot to do with my results. I hated cardio for a while but I'm actually starting to love it again. I've been waking up between 4:30 and 4:40 every morning so that I can be at the gym by 5. I do an hour of cardio as well as strength training. I really look forward to my time at the gym. It's a time when I can focus on me. While I'm doing my cardio, I put on Netflix on my phone. I don't feel guilty for indulging in reality tv because I'm doing something great for my body at the same time. Even though I enjoy cardio now, I still prefer lifting weights. I love feeling myself get stronger!

BUT back to the cleanse.

I lost three pounds, which I was thrilled about! And I am down 5.5 inches. Not too shabby.

I highly recommend Spark. I received my shipment of Mango Strawberry and Green Apple today and I can’t wait to try them both! A glass of Spark really helps me get through my 5am workouts.

Meal Makin' Monday


I love Mondays because it's one of my days off. I am able catch up and get ready for my upcoming week. It's also a day where I can enjoy myself at the gym. I don't worry about what time it is and how long until I have to start getting ready for work. I just go and do my thing. 

I woke up this morning around 7:30. I made some protein pancakes for today and the rest of the week (more on that in a moment). I ate breakfast and then I ended up falling back to sleep. I must have been exhausted. I slept about an hour and a half. 

When I woke up for the second time I fueled myself with some Spark and headed to the gym.





After two hours at the gym-cardio, arms and abs-I decided to do some meal prep. Since I made the pancakes this morning I’ll start with those.



Previously, I was using cottage cheese, oats, bananas, eggs, vanilla protein powder and almond milk. Since I’m doing the Advocare Herbal Cleanse and I am supposed to avoid dairy (I did find out I can have whey protein though!!!) this morning I made my pancakes without the cottage cheese. I do highly recommend the cottage cheese though. ¼ cup per batch. It adds a cream cheese kind of flavor to the pancakes.

For one batch, I blend 1 egg, ½ cup of oats, 1 ripe banana, 1 scoop of protein powder and about a ½ cup of almond milk in the blender. I suggest putting the liquids on the bottom and the oats on top. That way it will blend easier.

This morning I doubled my recipe to make enough pancakes for five days. I was able to make fifteen pancakes and I will eat three each morning. I also used my boyfriend’s new protein powder-Caramel Pretzel. They were delicious! In order to get more protein in, I eat them with turkey bacon or turkey sausage.



Before I began my meal prep I went to Bristol Farms and I made a visit to the butcher. That’s one of the things I love about Bristol Farms. None of their meat is pre-packaged. The butcher prepares what you’d like right in front of you. I asked for Organic Chicken Breast, Organic Ground Turkey and he cut some Tri-Tips into Steaks for me. It was a little cheaper to go that route. I also got some veggies.


When I got home I started with the Organic Ground Turkey. I cooked it up with some garlic and onion powder.


I then measured it out and put each serving into a plastic bag.


Next onto the Organic Chicken Breast. I think I may have mentioned before that I am weird about nerves and blood and veins. I pretty much cut out half of the chicken I had purchased because I only cook the actual chicken. If I see anything else, I cut it out. This is one of the reasons why I don’t always buy chicken breast when I’m in need of protein. I feel like I waste too much.


I grilled up the chicken with garlic and onion powder as well and then I measured it out just like the ground turkey.


Then I cooked my steaks in the oven for twenty minutes. Ten minutes on each side. I also added a little salt, garlic powder and onion powder.


After that I grilled it in the pan for a few minutes, just to add a little more flavor.


Then I cut it up and measured it out.


Below is the finished product of all of my meat measured out and labeled with each bags weight. Some ended up weighing less or more than the next and I want to know how many ounces to put into MyFitnessPal.

I will rotate the chicken and ground turkey for lunches and I will eat the steak for dinner.


I also steamed some broccoli and sweet corn for my sides.



And because I hate spending time each morning collecting all my vitamins and supplements, I got them all ready so I can just grab and go.


For snacks, I have carrots, hummus and rice cakes ready. I also have Quest Bars on hand in case my sweet tooth kicks in and I will have two scoops of protein powder each day. One after my workout and one before bed.

I hope this helps any of you looking into meal prepping. It only took me about two hours total to prepare all of this and now I have no reason to not stay on my plan this week. Let’s make it a great one!

What I Eat


I've been posting photos of what I eat daily on Instagram. I thought I'd change it up a bit and just write a blog about the foods that are always on my grocery list and what I eat most of the time. I try to keep things pretty simple, especially when it comes to my lunches. I'm all about healthy convenience. By the way, I just happened to have all of the photos included below stored on my phone. Clearly, I take too many pictures of my food.
