All In Your Name

Naming a child is a huge responsibility. I've personally always had names in the back of my mind but unfortunately, those names became trendy. I started to hear them more and more and then I no longer liked them. Stephen had a few names picked out but they were all boys names. When we were dating, we decided we should just start from scratch. We discussed names and agreed on two unisex names that we could use when we were ready to have babies. We wanted them to be unique but also have meaning behind them.

At the time, Stephen was managing a store for a wood flooring company. For sixty to eighty hours a week, his life revolved around wood. Because of wood, we were relocated to Palm Desert. I really enjoyed our time out there because we were far enough away to have our own space but close enough so that family could come visit often. Because of wood, Stephen was able to purchase my engagement ring and he ended up proposing in our Palm Desert apartment. Because of wood, we were able to move back to Temecula, where I'm from, and purchase our first home together. Because of wood, we were also able to pay for part of our wedding {the other part was paid for by my parents, who we will always be grateful to} and honeymoon. We felt like we owed a lot to wood.

Stephen's favorite species of wood is Acacia. I'll be honest, I went back and forth with him on this one. I was not extremely fond of the name Acacia. But I still chose a middle name - Rhae. I chose Rhae because to me - it sounds Southern and I love all things Southern. {Side note - I'm really bummed that the name Rae has become rather trendy all of a sudden but oh well. It's her middle name so I'll deal with it.} I added the h to the spelling for two reasons. First, I love h's. Second, my mom spelled my middle name, Nichole, with an h and I've always loved that. And Stephen has an h in his middle name, Phillip, so I thought that could be something we all share. You know, besides the last name and all the others things we'll share in our lifetimes.

As I said before, I tried fighting with Stephen on the name. I came up with other options and he'd veto every single one. Then there was one evening when we were shopping in Toys "R" Us. This was right after we found out she would be a girl. Stephen picked up a Chewbacca doll and he said, "I'm going to get this for Acacia" and I just loved hearing him say that. Hearing her name coming out of his mouth and knowing he was referring to our daughter, it just felt right. And I told myself in that moment, "That's her name." And then when I did my half marathon in January in Carlsbad, as I was struggling to finish, I looked up and saw the street sign {below}. I was reminded yet again, that Stephen had chosen the perfect name for our little girl. I did take a photo that day but it wasn't as good as the photo below. My parents actually went to Carlsbad for my dad's birthday, on the the 29th, and sent me this photo.

I looked up the meaning of Acacia recently and found that "the acacia is a shrub of the mimosa family, with clusters of showy white or yellow blossoms, which symbolizes resurrection and immortality - making the name especially appropriate for an Easter - season baby...it also has biblical ties, since the Ark of the Covenant was made out of Acacia wood." And I fell in love with the name all over again.

Thirty-Two Weeks

How far along? Thirty-two weeks and six days.

Baby's size? Baby is the size of a Florida pomelo, which I looked up. It's very similar to a grapefruit.

Baby's nickname? Baby girl and her daddy and I call her by her name. I promise a post with her name and the story behind it is coming soon!

Maternity clothes? Yes, mostly wearing all maternity clothes. A few pre-pregnancy tops still fit but not many.

Exercise? Well, we cleaned the garage on Sunday and I considered that a workout. Same with any other chores around the house. I found this online and it's SO true!

Sleep: Sleep was decent this week. My poor husband, on the other hand, hasn't been sleeping because I've been snoring. I try to stay on my side because I snore less while I'm on my side but I end up laying on my back and he gently wakes me up and says, "Babe, you're snoring." We're almost there! Only a few more weeks.

Best moment this week: Hanging out at my parents house, celebrating my dad's birthday. Twice. Saturday night and this morning for his actual birthday. Can't wait until the baby is able to enjoy those moments with me.

Miss anything? Now that Summer is coming and I'm getting closer and closer to my due date, I'm missing a good drink more and more. I had a virgin margarita on Saturday night but it's just not the same. I miss a good glass of wine and a good shot of tequila.

Movement: All kinds of movement. I can already tell she's going to be a bit stubborn though. I'll feel her moving and I'll tell my husband so he'll put his hand on my stomach and she'll instantly stop. Or she'll start to move and I'll pull my camera out and then she'll stop. BUT if I just sit there and not do anything, she'll continue to move all over the place.

Food Cravings: Carne asada tacos from my favorite place in town sounded really good so we went there on Saturday. But that's pretty much it. Besides the usual bagels and carbs.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope.

Gender: GIRL!

Symptoms: Rib pain still. I haven't gone to the chiropractor because I've been wanting to save the sessions I have left for closer to my due date. My insurance covers twenty sessions and I've already used about ten of them. Acne but again, not nearly as bad as it used to be. And I've been extremely tired! Like I need a nap by 8am tired. I get eight hours of sleep each night, if not more. I wake up at 7, get the dogs breakfast, eat my breakfast and by 8 I'm ready to go back to bed but I start working at 8. I am going to take advantage of the time I have before the baby comes when I'm on maternity leave and I'm going to nap all the time.

Wedding rings on or off? Wedding ring is always on. I only wear my engagement ring for special occasions now.

Happy or moody most of the time? Happy!

Looking forward to: Maternity leave! Three more weeks of working. I love my bosses and I love being able to work from home. But lately I'm just so tired that I can't help but need time off. I guess that's what maternity leave is for, right?

Vader is ready to meet his baby sister. A fellow Boxer owner told me the other day that her boxer took over as her baby's babysitter and protector as soon as they brought her home. I can't wait to see our boys do that.

One of the many times baby girl's daddy tried to feel her moving. I think he felt a few kicks and flips this night.

Doesn't take much to get me to run to Starbucks, especially lately! This momma is sleepy!

Thirty-One Weeks

How far along? Thirty-one weeks and six days.

Baby's size? Baby is the size of a head of romaine lettuce. Some of these things crack me up.

Baby's nickname? Baby girl and her daddy and I call her by her name. I promise a post with her name and the story behind it is coming soon!

Maternity clothes? Yes, mostly wearing all maternity clothes. A few pre-pregnancy tops still fit but not many.

Exercise? Just chores around the house and playing outside with the dogs. It doesn't take much to get my heart rate going these days.

Sleep: Sleep was a little better this week BUT my rib pain has come back so now I wake up in the middle of the night uncomfortable because of that. I've been getting more than eight hours each night though. And I've taken a few naps here and there. We went to LA this past weekend and I was exhausted after that so I had to get in some extra rest.

Best moment this week: Being in LA with Stephen.

Miss anything? Not really missing anything this week.

Movement: Tons of movement. My stomach is constantly moving and sometimes it even looks a little lob sided

Food Cravings: I've been wanting grapes so bad. I finally found some for 99 cents a pound and they have been delicious! I had only seen them for $2.99 a pound and I didn't want to pay that. Pretty much all fruit sounds good right now and bagels still, of course. I have been extremely hungry this week. But only in the first half of the day. I'm like a bottomless pit. But then when dinner time rolls around, I'm so full I can barely eat.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope.

Gender: GIRL!

Symptoms: Acne, of course. Rib pain has come back with a vengeance. And I'm starting to feel some pressure in my stomach area. I'm just waiting for Braxton Hicks contractions to start coming on...

Wedding rings on or off? Wedding ring is always on. I only wear my engagement ring for special occasions now.

Happy or moody most of the time? Happy!

Looking forward to: I am looking forward to my maternity leave. I have so much to do and I don't feel like there is enough time in the day so I'm excited to tackle my to-do list.

On our babymoon in LA.

Seeing Alton Brown for the fourth time. Baby girl moved the ENTIRE show! She must be a fan already.

Thirty Weeks

How far along? Thirty weeks and six days.

Baby's size? Baby is the size of a cantaloupe this week.

Baby's nickname? Baby girl and her daddy and I call her by her name. We actually shared her name with our family and friends at our baby shower this past weekend. Separate blog post to come with her name and the story behind it.

Maternity clothes? Yes, mostly wearing all maternity clothes. A few pre-pregnancy tops still fit but not many.

Exercise? Just chores around the house and playing outside with the dogs. It doesn't take much to get my heart rate going these days.

Sleep: Sleep was not so good this week because of my cold and being in my third trimester. I did get a saline rinse and that helped clear up my sinuses a lot so I was able to breathe for at least a night or two. And I take Benadryl before bed each night and that helps me sleep a bit.

Best moment this week: Having my brother, sister-in-law and original fur baby home and our baby shower. We were definitely feeling the love that day!

Miss anything? SLEEP!

Movement: Lots and lots of movement.

Food Cravings: Same as usual - carbs, carbs and more carbs.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope. I've only had cold symptoms. I went to the doctor's and I even had a fever. She gave me approved meds, the weakest ones out there, but at least it's something. Luckily my rib pain was basically non-existent this week. Not sure how I would have handled a cold and rib pain.

Gender: GIRL!

Symptoms: Still a little bit of acne. Not nearly as bad as in first and second trimester though. Overall soreness in my body. I can't do too much or I get tired and achey. But not too much to complain about.

Wedding rings on or off? Wedding ring is always on. I only wear my engagement ring for special occasions now.

Happy or moody most of the time? Happy!

Looking forward to: I can't wait until I'm over this cold. Being sick and pregnant is no fun, especially when the temps are getting into the 90's here in SoCal.

All the gifts from the baby shower. {More photos from the baby shower will be in a separate post.} The doggies had to inspect everything. What good brother's they already are.

The six of us. Next time we're all together there will be seven.

Aw, how cute!

The three most important men in my life.

Natchy baby and my baby bump. I hope they get to meet one day!

Twenty-Nine Weeks

How far along? Twenty-nine weeks and six days.

Baby's size? Baby is the size of a pineapple. When I told my husband our baby is now the size of a pineapple, he said, "A pineapple?! Pineapple's are big!" I said, "I know, she's getting bigger every day." I just laughed. I think he's starting to realize that we'll have a tiny human in our house very soon.

Baby's nickname? Baby girl and her daddy and I call her by her name.

Maternity clothes? Yes, I got a couple new tops for my birthday and I'm loving them. Now that the weather is warming up, I'm having to add in some short sleeve maternity tops.

Exercise? Very little again thanks to rib pain and a cold. I've gone my entire pregnancy without getting sick and I've finally caught a cold.

Sleep: Sleep is getting a little better. I've been trying to stay on my side but I tend to move to my back. Stephen tells me I snore more when I'm on my back, maybe that means I'm more comfortable.

Best moment this week: Getting baby girl's room organized. And celebrating Stephen's birthday! I also went to see my midwife this week and everything still looks great. Her heartbeat is 140 beats per minute and she kicked the midwife when she was checking her heartbeat. She gave me my date for maternity leave - April 20th. It's coming so fast!

Miss anything? Right about now, I'm missing cold medicine.

Movement: Lots and lots. She moves all the time. It makes me happy every time I feel her.

Food Cravings: I have been wanting ice cream for days now. Since Saturday. And I bought some from Trader Joe's but I haven't touched it yet. The first few days I didn't have the appetite and now I'm sick.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Only sick with a cold.

Gender: GIRL!

Symptoms: Rib pain has been so much better this week! My Ovia app said this morning that she may be starting to drop into the birth canal. I'm hoping that's true because I am so over the rib pain.

Wedding rings on or off? Wedding ring is always on. I only wear my engagement ring when I get dressed up and go out though.

Happy or moody most of the time? Happy!

Looking forward to: I am very excited for my brother, sister-in-law and Nash to come home this weekend! And I'm looking forward to may baby shower on Sunday. That's why I need to get over this cold ASAP!

Here is her room so far. Her crib was built for her daddy when he was born - thirty-two years ago this week. My in-laws kept it all these years. Him, his brother, our niece and nephew have all slept in it. Now it's our baby's turn to lay her head in it. And the dresser was given to me by my grandparents when I was a baby. I knew one day I'd want to pass it down to my daughter so I hung onto it. Same with my vanity, which will go to her when she's a little older.

Twenty-Eight Weeks

How far along? Twenty-eight weeks and six days. I'm in the third trimester now.

Baby's size? Baby is the size of an eggplant.

Baby's nickname? Baby girl and her daddy and I call her by her name.

Maternity clothes? I have like 1 non-maternity shirt that still fits. All my tshirts that I sleep in are starting to be impossible to wear. My belly sticks out of the bottom of them. Most of my clothes are maternity now.

Exercise? Very little activity this week. My rib pain came back and I was in a lot of pain for the majority of the week. I did work out with my trainer once but that was it.

Sleep: Sleep was not the greatest. I'm pretty sure it's going to continue getting worse from here on out.

Best moment this week: I had two great moments this week. My thirtieth birthday. I've actually been looking forward to thirty for a long time now. And my mom found gently used baby clothes at a great price. I went through them, washed them and hung them all up. Baby girl's closet is full now! Photos below.

Miss anything? Just a good night's sleep.

Movement: Tons of movement! Which is probably why my rib pain came back this week. I've noticed that even if she isn't moving at all, when Little Big Town's Better Man comes on the radio she moves around. {I always make sure to sing along.} I love that she's already able to recognize a song. I hope she'll love music just as much as I do.

Food Cravings: I really wanted fried chicken. I've been wanting it for a while. Stephen picked me up some for my birthday dinner and it was divine!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope!

Gender: GIRL!

Symptoms: Acne has gotten better, which I'm happy about. My trouble spots have become near my ears and my neck. I rarely ever had pimples there before. Other than that, just rib pain. I'm just grateful I've had a healthy pregnancy. I really don't feel like I can complain about a little rib pain.

Wedding rings on or off? Wedding ring is always on but I only wear my engagement ring when I get dressed up and go out.

Happy or moody most of the time? Happy!

Looking forward to: I'm honestly just looking forward to her being here. I want to hold her and smell her and give her lots of kisses!

Taken at twenty-eight weeks. Pre-pregnancy sweatshirt. I was surprised I could get it on over my bump.

This detergent smells so good! I want to wash my clothes in it now.

Her full closet!

Organized by size.

Taken on my thirtieth birthday with my parents. Last birthday before baby!
